“Many of the people scheduled to be deported on these two flights fear for their safety”
3rd September 2009: The UK African Communities have organised a Demonstration in Manchester against two imminent mass deportation flights to Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The demo will take place on Friday, 4th September from 10 am – 1 pm at the UKBA Dallas Court Enforcement Unit, Units 1-2 Dallas Court, South Langworthy Road, Salford Quays, Manchester, M5 2GF.
The organisers of the demo say that “Many of the people scheduled to be deported on these two flights fear for their safety should they be returned to Cameroon and the DRC.”
You are invited to join the demo and oppose mass deportation flights which as the organisers say, “operate in secret, putting companies' profits over public accountability, limit refugees' legal rights, allow more abuse of deportees, cause great distress because they give too short notice of deportation time and date, and attract more attention in the country of arrival, together with stigma of being branded as returning criminals.”
According to the organisers of the demo, some of the Cameroonian detainees have been told verbally by detention staff that they’ll be deported 9th September but this has not been confirmed by UKBA.
