 3rd November 2009: Preparations are underway for the Grand finale of Miss West Africa 2009 which will take place on 27th November in London. This year’s event will be hosted by international comedian Eddie Kadi, with performances from Ivorian dancers C’MAD.Amina Kamara who became the first ever Miss West Africa, never imagined the magnitude of responsibility expected of the title holder. She found herself being the face and personality representing the whole of Western African region. To achieve this Amina had to put down her Sierra Leonian patriotism and magnify her image as a West African and a unifying figure amongst all West African countries and cultures. She toured West Africa participating in charitable work as well as learning various cultures. After the tremendous success of Miss West Africa 2008, the organisers are now working hard to ensure that Miss West Africa 2009 becomes much more entertaining, with a winner who will continue the good work Amina has initiated. Mr. Nana Tamakloe, founder of Miss West Africa stated: “Miss West Africa is not just a beauty pageant to me, it’s an opportunity to steer the mentality of many young girls out there to acknowledge and respect West African culture.” He further said that Miss West Africa beauty pageant doesn’t only focus on the beauty but also on the intelligence of the applicants as a way of making proud and inspiring many of the young West African girls. Miss West Africa 2009 will take place in London, at the Royal Regency Hall. Many celebrities, diplomats and ordinary people are expected to attend the event which will support a Gambian child in need of bone morrow donors. It is a contest of beautiful and intelligent ladies from West Africa or of West African origin. The event is aimed at promoting West African cultures, beauty and lifestyle. Miss West Africa beauty pageant was founded to promote a positive image of West African countries. The winner of Miss West Africa will become an ambassador for various West African charities. Contestants are from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone.
