"Success comes to those who are smart and take risks"
4th March 2010: Being a professional model isn’t an easy task. One must “work hard, have a tough skin, be professional and never give up,” says model Karine Laudort. The creative, self starter and ambitious model holds that “Success comes to those who are smart and take risks.” Karine is a passionate, loyal and honest model who is determined to campaign so that models of colour can secure a place in the modelling industry. She is in fact disappointed with people who organise fashion events in the UK but deny models of colour a chance of taking part. Karine also campaigns for human rights in general, with a special focus on freedom of speech. She is against several ills in the society including racism, discrimination, domestic violence, child abuse and exploitation and poverty. Here’s an exclusive interview she granted The AfroNews. Karine, why did you choose to become a model? I fell in love with the fashion world from a very young age. Modelling and fashion in general are my passion and a way of life. Fashion chose me... For how long have you been modelling? Since I was scouted in France at age 14. How does it feel to be a model? It makes you feel beautiful, confident, proud, empowered and in a completely different world. As a model, what type of roles would you like to play? Femme fatale, cold beauty, candid, innocent, funny or mean... Any interests in acting? If so, what type of roles attract you? Thriller or action roles where I would have to go out of my comfort zone and act as someone far remote to who I really am. What’s the part of your body you like most? My eyes and lips. What are the qualities of your ideal man? Patient, affectionate, attentive, funny and intelligent. What would you like to achieve in life? Become a successful model and actually work at a later age for a magazine or TV if not for myself. Any advice to those aspiring to become models? Work hard, have a tough skin, be professional and never give up. Success comes to those who are smart and take risks. What’s your message to those who organise fashion events in the UK but deny models of colour a chance of taking part? As advertising increasingly beam images of a multi-ethnic global society around the world, an ‘all White’ catwalk or fashion event would appear absurdly out of touch with reality. Today’s society has evolved and so has the definition of Beauty.
