"The fashion industry has lost a true great, an icon of all time"
12th February 2010: Victoria Beckham and Sarah Jessica Parker have joined the list of celebrities who paid tribute to Alexander McQueen. Posh spoke of her sadness at the loss of a "creative genius" and said he would be "desperately missed" after the designer was found dead at his home on Thursday. She said: "McQueen was a master of fashion, creative genius and an inspiration ... the fashion industry has lost a true great, an icon of all time." She went on: "He made all he touched beautiful and will be desperately missed." Sarah Jessica - who famously attended New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in 2006 with the designer, both wearing matching outfits - said she was "shocked and overcome with grief upon learning about the untimely death of the quiet genius" in a statement published by People.com. She said of his designs: "Every single inspired, original, lofty, whimsical, stunning, brilliant and jaw dropping detail was Alexander McQueen. There has never been anyone like him. And there simply never will be. "What is more devastating is that despite all his success thus far, creatively, critically and commercially, his greatest achievements lay ahead of him. The future would be whatever he hoped to make of it. "God speed Lee. It has been a privilege for all of us to know you. You will be indescribably missed." Helena Bonham Carter said: "It's absolutely tragic. What horrible news. It's just horrendous to think that someone was so devastated by his mother dying." Myleene Klass, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Bill Nighy, Jessica Alba, Gail Porter and Jonathan Ross also paid tribute to the designer, who was found hanged according to sources, while Kate Moss cancelled publicity engagements on Thursday night and said she was "devastated".
