Youth leaders’ Summit to address issues affecting youth

Arise Now & Rebuild, a youth leaders’ summit will be held at the University of London on Saturday 10th September. Organised by Refocus Youths, in association with The Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK) and IDAY, this event seeks to address the issues affecting youth in the society.

“Youth leaders will come together. We will talk about violence, hatred and harmony amongst the youth,” said Dr. Rose Nwanna, founder of Refocus Youths. “There will be a brainstorming session where we will go into groups, and have a really good discussion about the problems facing our youths and the solutions. Communication is the best way to solve problems not violence.”

Umunna advises riot-hit businesses to claim in time

Shadow Business Minister and Member of Parliament for Streatham Chuka Umunna has urged businesses affected by the recent unrest but without insurance cover to make claims before the deadline passes this month.

Under the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 affected businesses which are uninsured, or whose insurance does not cover riot damage, can claim compensation from Police Authorities. Normally, claims must be received within 14 days but to give people more time to submit these claims the government has extended the period to 42 days. These 42 days are counted from the first day after the damage occurred.

High street retail giant ASDA has confirmed its support and sponsorship for the Best Product of the Year category at this year’s World Food Awards.

The glittering gala event, which celebrates the very best of ethnic food products and brands, will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Saturday 1st October.

The Awards, now in their third year have been created by the World Foods Association and recognise not only the incredible growth within this sector, but also the diversity of cultures and communities that the industry is inspired by.

Successful African Expo held in Birmingham

The first African Expo in Birmingham was a huge success.

The event organised by Music and Life Limited under the leadership of Mr. Tapfuma Magodi, was held on 20th August at The Barn in Birmingham.

The Lord Mayor’s Deputy, Councillor Michael Wilkes and Mrs. Wilkes attended the event. They had tea with the organizers before being taken around to meet the exhibitors. Mr. Magodi introduced them to local African business people.
