The head of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur, Ibrahim Gambari, has sought British support for the peace process in Darfur which the envoy said was on the cusp of making real progress.
In recent meetings with senior UK officials, Joint Special Representative (JSR) Gambari outlined the progress on the implementation and dissemination of the Doha Darfur Peace Document (DDPD), the result of two years of negotiations among the parties to the Darfur conflict.

UN calls for investigation into South Sudan camp bombing

The UN human rights chief has called for an investigation into the recent aerial bombing of a refugee camp in Unity State in South Sudan.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said that the information available so far suggested that the bombing may amount to an international crime or serious human rights violation.

Interview with the winner of Right Livelihood Award
Leading Chadian human rights lawyer, Jacqueline Moudeina has won a Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the Alternative Nobel Prize. Jacqueline has been honoured for her fight to win justice for the victims of the former Chadian dictator Hissène Habré. For her activism she has received numerous death threats and survived an assassination attempt. The AfroNews spoke to Jacqueline to learn more about her activism.
AU condemns terrorist attacks in Damaturu, Nigeria

The African Union (AU) has condemned the bomb and gun attacks carried out by terrorists in the north-eastern Nigerian town of Damaturu.
The attacked left over 100 people dead and dozens wounded, in one of the bloodiest terrorist acts witnessed in the country to date.
Jonathan pledges $60m for polio eradication

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has said that the Federal Government will commit $60 Million Dollars over the next two years to eradicate polio from Nigeria.
Speaking at a Global Polio Eradication Initiative event at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth, Australia, on 29th October, President Jonathan said that $30 Million Dollars will be committed annually by the Federal Government to the polio eradication effort over the next two years.
